For Non-EU citizens

If you are coming to Vilnius from outside the EU, you’ll need to secure a visa or a residence permit to stay here.

Schengen or a National visa (D)

While a Schengen visa is intended mostly for short-term purposes, a D visa can be granted to those who come to Vilnius to work or study for less than a year.

Permanent residence permit

A permanent residence permit is issued for 5 years, after that a replacement will be issued. This permit is usually issued based on the grounds that you have lived in Lithuania for more than 5 years, or you have Lithuanian heritage, or you are arriving with a family member who is a Lithuanian citizen. The permit is issued within 4 months (fast track procedure – 2 months).

If you are an EU citizen and are planning to stay for more than 3 months, you need to register to get an EU National Certificate from the Migration Center.
