European Health Insurance Card
A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is a document which certifies that the holder is entitled to receive state-provided medically necessary healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the EU countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, under the same conditions and at the same cost (free in some countries) as people insured in that country.
The EHIC will be issued within 14 days. The validity period of the EHIC is from 1 month to 6 years.
How to apply for EHIC?
Required documents:
- A completed application form;
- Passport/ID;
- Optional: ID/copy of the ID of the insured + the document proving the representation.
Where to submit your application:
- Personally at VLK;
- By visiting esdk.vlk.lt;
- By regular post;
- By e-mail.
The representative of the insured can provide a request only at the Territorial Health Insurance Fund.
What is covered by the European Health Insurance Card?
EHIC covers any state-provided medical treatment that becomes necessary during your stay because of either illness or an accident.
Important:
- Reduced-cost or free medical treatment from state healthcare providers;
- Only first aid.
