Cost: Kindergartens in Vilnius typically charge around €120 per month.

 

Students are admitted to Vilnius city schools year-round, but the main centralised admission process for public schools usually runs from March 1 to May 31. Additional admission dates are published on the City Municipality website.

When registering a child, the identity documents of both parents and the child must be provided.

Cost: Education in public schools is free, but parents must provide school supplies and exercise books.

  • Education is provided in Lithuanian, Russian and Polish.

  • Some schools offer instruction in Ukrainian, Belarusian and Hebrew.

  • For English or French-language education, parents must choose a private school.

 Private school tuition is calculated annually and ranges from a few hundred to several thousand euros, depending on the school, with additional payments for meals and other services.

  • Schools with specialized education programs (e.g., music, arts, sports) admit students based on entrance exams.

  • Gymnasiums implementing special pedagogical systems (ecology, humanistic culture, classical education, sports, and wellness) admit students from across the city.

Yes, the following groups can apply for state-funded study places or scholarships:

  • Citizens of EU/EEA countries

  • Lithuanian citizens

  • Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the Lithuanian diaspora

Applications are usually submitted via the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions (LAMA BPO) between June 1 and July 22.

Note: Applying directly to individual institutions excludes eligibility for state-funded places.

High-performing students may receive scholarships or free tuition. Other students must cover tuition fees themselves.
