Vilnius opens Baltic region’s first cell therapy and personalised medicine centre

On September 3, 2026, a new €61 million cell therapy and personalized medicine center officially opened at the Vilnius Innovation Industrial Park — part of the third phase of the “Bio City” development, “Bio City III.”

The 3,500 sq. m. facility will develop and manufacture cell therapy products, personalized therapeutic vaccines, regenerative medicine products, and 3D-printed human tissues. The new center is expected to create around 100 highly qualified jobs.

“Bio City III” is the third phase of the large-scale biotechnology city being developed in Vilnius, encompassing cell, tissue, and organ engineering as well as large-scale microbial manufacturing. The overall “Bio City” project envisions up to €7 billion in investment over the coming decade, around 2,400 jobs.

Vilnius serves as a dynamic hub within a country that boasts a robust life sciences sector with an impressive annual growth rate of 25%. With more than 80 thriving life science companies, this sector plays a vital role, contributing approximately 2.5% to the nation's GDP. As Lithuania gazes towards the future, it has set an ambitious target: for biotechnology to constitute at least 5% of the country's GDP by 2030. This visionary goal underscores an essential role of initiatives like Bio City in propelling economic growth and driving forward technological advancement within the nation.
