Super Express puts Vilnius on Poland’s weekend-train map

Polish news outlet Super Express asks whether Vilnius is about to become the next fashionable weekend destination for Poles. Its answer, backed by faster rail links, is that everything points that way.

In its travel section, Super Express pictures the Lithuanian capital as an atmospheric, elegant escape that is closer than many readers might think. The reason, it says, is the railway. A December 2025 upgrade trimmed almost an hour off the Warsaw–Vilnius journey, which now takes 7 hours 30 minutes, and trains run daily between Vilnius, Warsaw and Kraków with a change at Mockava.

The paper also did the arithmetic for its readers. Dynamic pricing keeps early-booked fares low, at 42 zloty from Suwałki, 67 from Warsaw and 84 from Kraków. A new route from Szczecin has opened alongside an extra connection to Suwałki. Demand is already visible: for the most recent holidays, direct tickets from Poland sold out as early as the summer.

What waits at the end of the line gets its share of space too: an Old Town on the UNESCO list, the royal treasures from the Cathedral crypt, including Alexander Jagiellon’s funerary crown, and 28 Michelin-listed restaurants, four of them starred. Super Express points readers to Nineteen18 and Džiaugsmas, and to the Pink Soup Festival, which has been extended to three days.
