Vilnius Opens Baltic Region’s First Cell Therapy and Personalised Medicine Centre

The €61 million "Bio City III" facility will develop and manufacture advanced therapies, from personalised vaccines and cell therapies to regenerative medicine products and 3D-printed human tissues.

A new cell therapy and personalised medicine centre has opened at the Vilnius Innovation Industrial Park. The 3,500 sq. m. facility is the third phase of the Bio City development and is expected to create around 100 highly qualified jobs.

Bio City III will develop and manufacture cell therapy products, personalised therapeutic vaccines, regenerative medicine products and 3D-printed human tissues. The new facility adds significant capacity to Lithuania’s rapidly growing life sciences sector.

The centre is part of a much larger biotechnology development taking shape in Vilnius. The wider Bio City project covers cell, tissue and organ engineering as well as large-scale microbial manufacturing, with plans for up to €7 billion in investment over the coming decade and around 2,400 jobs.

Life sciences is already one of Lithuania’s fastest-growing knowledge sectors, with more than 80 companies and an estimated annual growth rate of 25%. The sector currently contributes around 2.5% of the country’s GDP, with a national target for biotechnology to reach at least 5% by 2030.
