Second Edition of the MICHELIN Guide: Lithuanian Gastronomy Embraces Sustainability and Culinary Tradition

The MICHELIN Guide Lithuania enters its second edition and reaffirms Lithuania’s position as an emerging culinary destination. This year’s guide honors 37 restaurants, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and value for money.

Highlights of the Second Edition

  • A new MICHELIN Green Star has been awarded to Restaurant Demo in Vilnius, in addition to its existing MICHELIN Star. The award recognizes the restaurant’s innovative sustainability concept, housed in a former microchip factory for military components.
  • Four new MICHELIN Bib Gourmand awards were given to restaurants offering excellent cuisine at fair prices:
    • Augustin (Vilnius): Modern plant-based cuisine with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences
    • B'ARN Bistro (Vilnius): Personal cuisine with influences from Japan, Thailand, Mexico, and the Levant
    • El Gato Negro (Vilnius): Authentic Mexican cuisine in a colorful setting
    • Kristoforas (Vilnius): Classic French-Italian cuisine in the historic town hall

Sustainability in Focus

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, emphasized: Lithuania is a very forward-thinking country. Lithuanians are rightly proud of their culinary traditions – which remain present in eateries throughout the country – and this can be seen particularly through the awarding of a new Green Star to a restaurant that plays on its location’s heritage, both in terms of the building in which it’s housed, as well as its cuisine.

Demo, awarded with the Green Star, exemplifies how environmental consciousness and culinary excellence can go hand in hand. Chef Tadas Eidukevicius focuses on reuse – from reclaimed furniture to antique cutlery inherited from grandparents. Innovative techniques help reduce waste and repurpose surplus ingredients.

Starred Restaurants Retain Quality

All four restaurants awarded a MICHELIN Star last year have retained their stars:

  • Demo (Vilnius) – now also with a Green Star
  • Džiaugsmas (Vilnius)
  • Nineteen18 (Vilnius)
  • Pas mus (Vilnius)

Special Awards

The MICHELIN Special Awards 2025 go to:

  • Young Chef Award: Darek Medvedevas (Augustin)
  • Service Award: Lina Marija Balčiūnaitė (Red Brick)
  • Sommelier Award: Martynas Pravilionis (HeJi)
  • Opening of the Year Award: Arnas Petronis (B'ARN Bistro)

Lithuania as a Culinary Destination

With the number of Bib Gourmand awards doubling from four to eight, the MICHELIN Guide emphasizes the accessibility of Lithuanian gastronomy. According to Poullennec, Lithuania is a country that is both affordable and accessible for locals and visitors alike.

The 2025 selection showcases the diversity of Lithuania’s culinary scene – from traditional dishes to international fusion, all united by high quality and fair prices.
