Vilnius has a new place to watch the sunset: Euronews writes about the reopened revolving restaurant at the TV Tower, where the whole city passes by the window in the course of a single hour.
Every traveller, Euronews observes, looks for a good place to watch the sky turn orange and pink with a drink in hand. In Vilnius, that place is once again 165 metres up. Paukščių takas, or the Milky Way, has reopened at the top of the TV Tower and makes a full 360-degree turn every hour.
The restaurant is among the highest in the EU, with only Berlin’s Sphere, at 207 metres, standing taller. It also has a witty way of talking about altitude: its wines come only from vineyards at least 165 metres above sea level, the very height at which guests sit. The menu offers a contemporary take on Lithuanian cuisine, built around seasonal ingredients.
For those who prefer the open air, Euronews adds that Vilnius is one of the few European capitals that allows hot-air balloons above its centre. In summer they fill the sky at sunrise and sunset, with the Neris River, the UNESCO-listed Old Town and Gediminas Castle Tower spread out below.
