Amber Museum - Gallery

In short

Have you heard what kind of characteristics and energy Lithuanian amber radiates? If not, be sure to check out the Amber Museum-Gallery.

Featuring a unique collection, you will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the mysterious and mythical amber.

The museum presents the formation of Baltic amber in an interesting and modern way: a professional artist demonstrates amber processing and visitors are introduced to the essential properties of amber and its role in ancient pagan rites.

Brief History

The museum is located in Vilnius Old Town on Šv. Mykolo Street and was established in 1988 by Virginija and Kazimieras Mizgiriai, designers Jonas Gerulaitis and Audrius Klimas, archaeologist Gediminas Gendrėnas and others. The Amber Museum-Gallery will introduce the history of Baltic amber, its use in all periods of history, and amber morphology.

The museum exhibit includes a unique collection of inclusions and a reconstruction of the treasure of Juodkrantė. Museum staff will invite you to visit the basements where the ceramic scorching workshop with authentic pieces was established at the end of the 15th century. Exhibitions organised by artists can also be viewed and visitors can purchase contemporary and classic design jewellery at the museum.
