The Vilnius – The G-Spot of Europe campaign that sparked so much interest around the world last year continues to bear fruit. It’s been named among the top five finalists for the Best Travel Directions category at this year’s prestigious International Travel & Tourism Awards. The Go Vilnius campaign will compete with marketing initiatives from Liverpool, Bournemouth, Dallas and Las Vegas.
“It’s a great honour to be considered for such a distinguished award and stand alongside famous American and British cities. This will undoubtedly stimulate even greater global interest in Vilnius as a destination for tourism,” says Inga Romanovskiene, Director of Go Vilnius, the city’s Tourism and Business Development Agency.
Vilnius’ marketing campaign will go up against the likes of the Only Vegas Moments campaign, which consists of a series of short films and shows. Their axis is the freedom adults enjoy in their city, and the campaign encourages visitors to reveal their true selves and enjoy these moments. Bournemouth’s Christmas Tree Wonderland campaign is another finalist, targeting winter holiday lovers and drawing them in with the city’s fabulous Christmas spirit.
The International Travel & Tourism Awards are extremely important in the tourism market, and reward top travel destinations, public and private tourism organisations and individuals. This year’s awards include more than 90 nominations in categories such as Best Tourism Marketing Agency, Best Travel Direction – City – Campaign, Best Food Travel Direction, and Best Attraction. The awards ceremony will take place in London this November.
Vilnius’ G-Spot campaign has already won an international award this year, taking second place in the Tourism category at the International News and Analysis Centre’s Emerging Europe awards.
The G-Spot of Europe campaign drew lots of attention to Lithuania’s capital and encouraged the media and avid travellers to talk about advertising itself and put Vilnius on their list of next destinations. Vilnius appeared on the pages of top publications in the UK, France and other countries, as well as on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which has millions of fans around the world.
Over 110,000 people from around the world, especially the United Kingdom, Germany, and the US, visited www.vilniusgspot.com throughout the campaign period, and Google searches for Vilnius increased by 300%. The campaign also received a lot of attention in social networks. As soon as Go Vilnius launched the advertising campaign, Lürzer’s Archive, one of the world’s most recognisable advertising magazines, named it the best weekly advertising in the world.
