Social security & healthcare
When it comes to health and social security, Lithuania provides national options. A variety of private options are also available.
SoDra is the Lithuanian pension system and ensures that anyone who loses all or part of their ability to work is taken care of. Everyone who works on a labour contract in Lithuania is automatically insured by SoDra. Freelancers are required to make payments to SoDra themselves. If you need help with this, contact us.
VLK is Lithuania's national health insurance company and is there to help you when you need to see a doctor. Everyone who has a labour contract in Lithuania is insured automatically by SoDra. SoDra transfers your personal information to VLK and ensures that you appear in the system. Most health services (excluding dental) are free of charge under this national health insurance system.
If you are covered by SoDra, public healthcare is free, but medicines must be paid for out-of-pocket. Under some circumstances such as allergies and disability, medicines are covered by the insurance system.
